FEBCO Unapproved repair parts...??????
They have been tested and passed by IAPMO to be safe for use in pressure back flow (PVB), devices.
Unapproved repair parts for FEBCO 765? - But not illegal!
There are two aftermarket manufacturers of repair parts for the FEBCO 765 units in ¾ & 1 inch sizes. Blue Heron makes two of the FEBCO unapproved repair parts in 2 different color patterns.
The yellow jacket sold by Sprinklerwarehouse.com and the regular version of blue color…
And one FEBCO unapproved repair part that is exactly the same color as FEBCO is made by cj pond supply.
All will fit the febco 765 pvb’s AND WORK WELL. They meet or exceed the OEM parts specs. And By law under the Magnuson- Moss Warranty Act law of 1975 they are legal to use. And they have been sold for years at Home Depot, Lowe's & Ace Hardware stores. https://www.mlmlaw.com/library/guides/ftc/warranties/undermag.htm
Febco, (aka Watts Water Technologies), took Blue-Heron-products. to court and lost. They tried to prevent Blue Heron from producing replacement parts for the Febco 765 pvb back flow devices. Blue Heron is now making a complete PVB back flow device - the Blue Heron PVB. Blue Herons products are tested and approved by IAPMO.
Of course FEBCO doesn’t officially approve them. They want to sell you their own products, much like Ford Motor Company wants to sell you their OEM products under the name of Motorcraft. Many certified backflow testers will say that they will not pass a device if it uses aftermarket parts, even though it passes the required hydraulic tests just fine. They are motivated by greed as well, thinking that they some how make your backflow device safer when it passes just fine the way it is with the FEBCO unapproved repair parts. It’s much like a car passing an emissions test and the tester fails it solely because it has the wrong brand of muffler on it, or wrong brand of catalytic converter etc etc.
Worse than this is the idea that the ball valves somehow contribute to back flow prevention. The truth is- ball valves play no part in preventing a back-flow – (or) the reverse flow of water. They are simply inlet and out let valves. They are necessary for testing of the device and make convenient shut off valves while servicing the sprinkler system. Fact is, you can remove one or both ball valves and the back flow prevention device will perform just fine. Fact is back flow devices never use to come with inlet & out let valves. They were included solely for the purpose of testing the device as required annual testing came of age in the 1980’s. Ball valves commonly freeze and crack in the Winter when not properly drained. Many home owners replace the valves with after-market- generic brand of ball valves found at many hardware stores. Again, certified back flow testers want to charge the home owner to put on OEM ball valves. Again, ball valves have no back flow prevention qualities or characteristics. There is a new style of ball valve made since 2014 that incorporates a freeze plug that greatly minimizes the damage during a freeze up.
Again you have not only the Certified Back-Flow Testers rejecting the new freeze tolerant style , but also contractors who want to keep installing the ball valves that crack so they can keep on profiting on your misfortune. It’s called the G & C factor-(Greed & Corruption factor). What are they really interested in?-- Safe water or maximizing profits. Transfer this mentality to the health care industry and you would find Dr.’s not wanting to give their patients a pill to cure cancer because they make their living by selling CHEMO & Radiation treatments etc. etc.
At the end of the day, I like a quote from the GOOD BOOK, ( God's Word). The letter of the law kills, but the Spirit of the law gives life!
